Aaron Carter opened up about his attraction to both men and women in a note posted to his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

“This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off of me,” the singer wrote.

“I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13-years-old I started to find boys and girls attractive.”

“There were years that went by that I thought about it, but it wasn’t until I was 17-years old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with.

“To me music has always been my temple. Music will ALWAYS be what transcends all of us and myself.

"The studio has always been my safe haven” he continued. “But the ultimate goal for me is to be satisfied.

"I never want to be a figure of disappointment.”

Aaron recently opened up about his long-time struggle with anxiety and use of medical marijuana to Entertainment Tonight, shortly after an arrest for driving under the influence

“I opened for Michael Jackson September 9 and 10 in 2001,” he said.

“We all left the morning of September 11 and watched the Trade Centers get hit across the Hudson River, and I saw it burned with my own eyes and I saw people jumping out of the buildings and burned.”

After news of the arrest, former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter reached out to his brother on Twitter.

Aaron addressed both his arrest and his brother's Tweet in an online statement.

“If my own blood (Nick) truly cared about my well-being, why wouldn’t he call me directly and have a conversation instead of making this about him through a very public forum?” the singer wrote.

“That’s not cool at all to use me for his PR,” he wrote. “I love my family despite it through thick and thin."
