‘American Horror Story’ Season 7 Theme Revealed: The 2016 Election

2016 will finally be immortalized for what it was: an American horror story.

Specifically, the 2016 election is the theme for American Horror Story Season 7. Keep reading to see what AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy says...

We’ve known for a while that the setting would be “modern-day,” but we hadn’t expected to know the theme so soon.

By contrast, Ryan and the rest of the team at FX kept Season 6’s theme a secret until it aired.

The veteran TV producer announced the Season 7 news on Watch What Happens Live on February 15.

“I don’t have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through,” he said.

“I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”

Ryan didn’t reveal any cast or character information, though we know American Horror Story fan faves Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will star in Season 7, just as they have starred in every other season.

Andy Cohen even asked him if Donald Trump would be depicted in Season 7.

“Maybe,” Ryan said, coyly.

Season 7 won’t be as shrouded in secrecy as Season 6 was, clearly, but the hype should be no less intense.

“Ryan has another really innovative idea to do something fresh and different. There’s a marketing and promotional hook around that,” FX Network CEO John Landgraf previously told reporters.

The AHS writers will have no shortage of inspiration for the horrifying seventh season.

With pussy-grabbing comments, rally violence, fake news, hate-based rhetoric, email scandals, menstruation innuendo, basketfuls of deplorables, and Russian hacking among its controversies, the 2016 presidential race was arguably one of the nastiest elections yet.

“Dragging on for an excruciating eternity, this election season has demeaned democracy, elevated mediocrity and insulted and embarrassed us all on just about every level imaginable,” opined CNN’s Rudy Ruiz.

“Intellectually, with regard to the lack of focus on policy and substance; ethically, with a complete disregard for integrity and character; and morally, driven by a disgraceful descent into racist and xenophobic vitriol.”
