Curvy Ashley Graham Makes ‘Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition’ History (PHOTOS)
Gone are the days of — only — stick-thin models prancing around in their bikinis for the Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition.
The magazine unveiled their annual #breaktheinternet entry and bodacious babe Ashley Graham makes a splash on the 2016 cover. The gorgeous girl shares her front-and-center honor with real-life Wonder Woman Ronda Rousey and up-and-comer Hailey Clauson, 20.
With their three separate covers, the women made history.
“I thought Sports Illustrated was taking a risk by putting a girl my size in the pages already,” size-16 Ashley, who appeared in an ad for last year’s issue, told People. “But putting me on the cover? They aren’t just breaking barriers, they are the standard now. This is so beyond epic.
“To have somebody who has cellulite, who has things that jiggle, who has back fat and actually talk about them,” the 28-year-old continued, “and talk about how you can be an overcome and not let society take you down for all of that — that’s real and that’s what we need in this society.”
UFC fighter Ronda seems equally emotional about her starring gig and admitted she felt shame about her athletic bod as a teen.
“I was wearing zip up hoodies to cover my arms, even if it was 90 degrees out because I was so self conscious about it,” said the 29-year-old, who stripped down to body paint for her photos. “I really think that we’re kind of being shown … there are many different kinds of beauty.”
Another woman made her mark with the special issue: Nicola Griffin. The 56-year-old, who sizzles in a swimsuit ad, is reportedly the oldest model to ever appear in the yearly offering.
We can’t wait to see who scores a game-changing (snap)shot in 2017!
