Why Did ‘Bachelor’ 2017 Spoil the Season With the ‘Bachelorette’ Reveal?

Don’t get us wrong, we (like the rest of Bachelor Nation) were pumped to see Rachel Lindsay announced as the next Bachelorette 2017 star.

However, the question remains: Why did ABC have to spoil her run on Nick Viall’s current Bachelor 2017 season by doing it now?!

Though the network hasn’t addressed this directly, the Dallas gal herself did partially on the February 13 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

When the host pointed out this sort of puts a damper on the rest of Season 21, considering she’s currently in the final four, the new Bachelorette offered up an interesting explanation.

“We’re a couple of weeks out from filming, we’re ready to get this started,” she reasoned. “I’m ready to find love, find a husband.”

She’s not wrong — usually, the lead is announced during the Bachelor post-finale After the Final Rose special, which will air on March 20.

Then, just three or so days later, filming on that gal’s Bachelorette season kicks off.

If they’d gone by this model, there would be no time for men to sign up with the intention of dating Rachel specifically.

By announcing early, the show will now have a full month to build interest and cast an interesting, impressive, and diverse group of men for her.

“So if you know anybody out there who needs to apply, sign up, go ahead and get started!” she emphasized during Kimmel.

As for who should bother signing up…

The accomplished lawyer wants contestants with a sense of humor and desire to build a life with someone.

“I’m looking for someone who’s ready for what I’m ready for," she stated. "At this point in my life, 31, I’m ready for a husband, someone that’s ready to start a family."

If this all seems so quick after she dated Nick on Bachelor, here are a couple things to bear in mind.

First off, Season 21 wrapped filming back in November. Sure, that was only three months ago, but they had also only known one another for less than three months at the time.

Plus, the 31-year-old had plenty of time to come to terms with this new gig since it’s been in the works for a while.

She detailed, “It wasn’t that long after I got off the show that I got approached. But I honestly thought they were just doing it to try to make me feel better from the heartbreak.”
