Ryan Bowers is majorly into sports. The 6’1” professional football player lasted six episodes as one of Emily's favorite dudes on Bachelorette on Season 8. Ryan started off strong in his quest to woo Emily Maynard, and even beat out his competition (including hunky philanthropist Doug Clerget) for the first rose and scoring her first one-on-one date. He was a little too confident and ended up getting booted off the show in Croatia after Emily realized he might only be looking for a "trophy wife". Major turn-off, right?

Ryan attended Presbyterian College, where he also (surprise!) played football. Fun fact: He was the first-ever student from his high school to receive a football scholarship, according to this profile on the Athelite website. Ryan left college to play for the Arena Football League — first with the Indiana Firebirds and later with the Green Bay Blizzard. Ryan later finished his college degree in 2006, right before he signed with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and was shipped off to play in NFL’s Europe league.

Of his success as an athlete, Ryan tells The Augusta Times, “It's one of those things where you just work and believe. I can do anything the Lord wants me to do.” Ryan also owns his own gym and training facility, Athelite, where he is apparently beloved by his clients, who have been ecstatically tweeting about his Bachelorette stint. Too bad his hunky charm didn't work on Emily.
