11 Celebrity Cheaters With Scarlet Letters
Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic The Scarlet Letter was published 166 years ago today — March 16, 1850 — and Hester Prynne would be in good company these days with all the celbrities who'd have to wear an "A" for "adulterer."
From Jesse James's hordes of tattooed mistresses to Tiger's $100 million divorce payout to Usher's Confessions, check out these stories of celebrity infidelity.
Although Twilight’s golden couple never publicly admitted that they were an item, everyone knew that the vamp and his lady love were a couple both on and off screen.
When rumors began circulating in July 2012 that Kristen Stewart had cheated on her dreamy Brit with her Snow White and Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, Twihards were beside themselves and insisted that the rumors were untrue.
However, once magazines began publishing pictures of the alleged hookup between the 22-year-old actress and the married father of two, Kristen and Rupert each released separate statements regarding the fling.
In Kristen’s statement, she publicly apologized to R.Pattz, saying in part, “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry.”
Sanders released an equally heartfelt statement apologizing to his wife and family. “My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together,” he said.
Tiger Woods's squeaky-clean Nike golf champion image proved to be a well-kept facade when dozens of mistresses came forward in 2009. Tiger's wife reportedly got close to $100 million in the divorce settlement, which was finalized in June 2010, according to TMZ.
LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian met while filming the Lifetime movie Northern Lights in 2008, jumpstarting an affair that would end both of their marriages. LeAnn and Eddie tied the knot in April 2011, and then renewed their vows a year later. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville, Eddie's ex-wife, announced on the show, "I was married to the number-one douchebag of all time!"
British actors Sienna Miller and Jude Law were engaged back in 2004, when Sienna was just 23 years old. But Jude, who has three children with ex-wife Sadie Frost, couldn't keep his hand out of the honey jar: He was caught cheating with the family nanny in 2005.
The nanny promptly sold her juicy story to the tabloids, which was how Sienna found out about the affair. The wedding was called off, Sienna's mom called Jude "a bloody idiot" in The Daily Mail, and three years later, the ill-fated twosome gave it another try before splitting up again in February 2011.
From "Stray Rod" to "Yankee Doodle Dandy," baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez earned a slew of nicknames for cheating on his wife, Cynthia Rodriguez, with a Toronto stripper and — moving on up! — pop icon Madonna. More than the strippers, it was the whirlwind love affair with Madonna that broke the marriage's back, according to TIME. Cynthia reportedly believed Madonna used Kabbalah and "Jewish mysticism" to "brainwash" her husband.
Ryan and Reese met at her 21st birthday party in 1997 and married two years later, in 1999. The couple, who have two children together, allegedly split after Reese uncovered evidence that Ryan was cheating on her with his Stop-Loss co-star Abbie Cornish, according to Us Weekly.
Reese filed for divorce in 2006, at which point Ryan and Abbie took their relationship public.
Abbie broke up with Ryan in early 2010 amidst rumors that he was cheating on her with Heroes star Hayden Panettierre, reports Celebuzz.
Usher famously poured his cheating heart into Confessions II, singing, "Just when I thought I'd said all I could say, my chick on the side said she got one on the way. These are my confessions!"
Poor Chilli Thomas, the beautiful TLC singer who don't want "No Scrubs" but got saddled with one anyway, later took to her blog to rant about the ridiculousness of cheating:
"We live in a country where we can choose our mate so if you’re unhappy with your mate for whatever reason, then break up," she writes. "It’s pretty simple. Cheating takes too much effort."
Preach it, girl! Or, as Usher sings, "Even though this might bruise you, let it burn."
After four years of dating, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel broke up in March 2011. One major glitch: Justin got his sexy back with actress Olivia Munn, with whom he had a steamy affair involving "amazing sex," reports Us Weekly.
Despite the rumors, Jessica and Justin got back together in October 2011 after only a handful of months apart.
It was Hollywood's dream come true: Silver-screen heartthrob marries queen of the small screen. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt got hitched in 2000 in a lavish Malibu affair complete with fireworks and endless Dom Perignon. Five years later, Brad allegedly fell for his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie during filming.
Jennifer filed for divorce in March 2005, and by January 2006, Angelina was pregnant with Brad's first child. The rest is Tinseltown history.
The No Strings Attached star apparently confused fiction with fact and forgot about the strongest attachment of all: marriage.

The TV personality and West Coast Choppers CEO famously cheated on his wife, America's sweetheart Sandra Bullock, with a handful of trashy ladies in 2010. After a messy divorce, the ladies' man managed to score celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D.
But as it turns out, Jesse didn't abandon his unfaithful tricks: Kat posted a lengthy Facebook note detailing her discovery of Jesse's 19 other women. "There was a time when I was confident and excited at proving the world wrong, because I believed so deeply in people's ability to change for the better," Kat wrote. Good riddance, girl!
