Sneak Peek at DeMario Jackson’s Interview on the ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Scandal (VIDEO)
In fact, the episode seemed to be missing large chunks in the timeline in DeMario Jackson’s and Corinne Olympios’ pool and hot tub encounter, which caused the show to be suspended in June.
Luckily, they’ll return for a sit-down with Chris Harrison to share some of the details we missed, and tonight’s (August 22) part one reveals DeMario’s side.
ABC just released a sneak peek at Tuesday’s ep, where the 30-year-old alum opens up to the host in front of a live studio audience. It’s not exactly the “intimate” discussion we were promised, but we’re getting used to that by now.
In the clip, Rachel Lindsay’s former Bachelorette contestant speaks specifically to the aftermath of the scandal, and how it affected him emotionally — even leading him to “suicidal” thoughts.
The first thing he recalls is how unaware he was of the severity of the situation when he returned home from Mexico.
“I remember calling my dad and was like, ‘Man, I got kicked off,’” the Cali native states.
“He was like, ‘Oh this reality stuff really isn’t for you.’”
He continues, “We laughed and I remember landing and calling my mom. My mom [said] the same exact thing, she was like, ‘What?’”
This admission has even Host Harrison shocked by DeMario’s uninformed outlook.
“Even on the way home you didn’t really know the gravity of the situation?” he asks.
The reality star responds, “Definitely. When I left, it was just I’m getting kicked off and Corinne was going to be kicked off as well and that’s all I knew.
“I went home and went out with my dad. We had dinner and we caught up and that was it,” he adds.
As we know now, that wasn’t it, and soon after his name was splashed across headlines as anonymous sources told differing stories about the incident, ranging from a drunken hookup to “assault” and “consent” issues.
Though Warner Brothers’ investigation later cleared the contestants of any wrongdoing, DeMario’s been open about how much this has hurt him in the long run.
“I signed up for this reality. I feel guilty, because my mom didn't sign up for this,” he said recently, which is likely to also come up again tonight.
He continued, “And she's been getting harassed, people tweeting at her, on her Instagram saying, 'Your son's a rapist.'
“I remember just talking to my mom, like, 'My life's over. Like, I don't even want to live anymore.' And she, like, lost it.”
Watch the clip below and tune in tonight for the full interview.
Bachelor in Paradise airs tonight, August 22 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
