Gabby Douglas Misses 2016 MTV VMAs While Hospitalized
Sans 20-year-old gymnast Gabby Douglas, the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team served as presenters during the show.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist took to Twitter to cheer on her teammates while noting that she was recovering from a hospital visit during the ceremony.
Unfortunately, the recovery didn’t last long, as the gymnast ended up back in the hospital later last night, August 28.
"Gabby is back in the hospital tonight being treated for a seriously infected past mouth injury,” her publicist shared with People.
"She continues to have deep swelling and adverse reactions to medications."
"We're sad she couldn't be here to enjoy this with us. We miss her," Simone exclaimed.
Aly echoed a similar sentiment, sharing this Instagram post:
Although the American gymnast did not earn any individual gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, she did share the team gold in all-around gymnastics with her four friends.
As always, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
It’s safe to say we missed Gabby Douglas last night, and we wish her a speedy recovery.
