‘Game of Thrones’ Star Ed Skrein: I Was Fired From Daario Role Over Politics
Even as polished a show as Game of Thrones is, there are always inconsistencies — one of the most jarring of which was the abrupt recasting of Daario Naharis. In Season 3, he was played by Ed Skrein, but by Season 4, Michiel Huisman had taken over the role.
Now, Ed himself is clearing up the narrative. “Contrary to reports, I didn’t walk away [from the show],” he tells TooFab. “I wouldn’t walk away. There are very few things in my life I’ve walked away from.”
“This is a complicated industry and there’s always politics involved,” he continues.
Still, the 32-year-old rapper-turned-actor remains philosophical about his career trajectory: “I never really look back, my journey has been unorthodox in many ways.”
Plus, even without Game of Thrones, Ed’s career is flourishing. The Brit is the lead star in The Transporter Refueled, which hits theaters tomorrow, and he’ll battle Ryan Reynolds in Marvel’s highly-anticipated Deadpool movie.
“Me and Ryan had incredible chemistry, we had this synergy,” he says, adding that the Powers That Be were initially hesitant to let the actors film the fight scenes. “I remember Ryan saying to me, ‘I’ve had such a great time getting beat up by you,’ and vice versa.”
We’re just glad he wasn’t too beat up by this casting shakeup. Good on you, bud!
