Game of Thrones Season 6 Speculation: Will Dany Finally Make It to Westeros?
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) finds herself in an unfortunate situation at the end of Game of Thrones Season 5. After flying out of Meereen on Drogon’s back, Dany is now surrounded by a strange Khalasar, and she knows that’s usually bad news for a lone woman. To make matters worse, we don’t really know what’s going to happen to Dany next season, since the show has now caught up to her story in the A Song of Ice and Fire books. But with only (presumably) two seasons left on the show, we don’t expect Dany to waste too much time in the Dothraki Sea before making some sort of move, she’s come too far as a character for that. Which brings us to the six million dollar question: Will Dany make it to Westeros in Season 6?
Maybe. Game of Thrones might have only two seasons left, so twenty episodes, and we don’t expect them to save everything for the very end. The two major events that we expect to come to pass by the end of the show are Dany’s invasion of Westeros and a final battle with the White Walkers. While these could both happen in Season 7, it would make sense to at least let Dany’s invasion start in Season 6.
he proof also seems to be in George R. R. Martin’s original plan for A Song of Ice and Fire. In the original planned trilogy (now a planned seven books), the first book was A Game of Thrones, which dealt with the politics of Westeros, the second book was to be A Dance With Dragons, which would cover Dany’s invasion of Westeros, and the third book would have been The Winds of Winter and been about the showdown with the White Walkers.
Things obviously didn’t work out that way for Martin (we’re through five books and still in “game of thrones” mode), but his plan does seem to suggest that Dany’s invasion and the White Walker battle are definitely going to be separate events that don’t happen concurrently. Knowing this, and knowing that the show only plans two more seasons, we have our fingers crossed that Dany will indeed touch down in Westeros at some point in Season 6.
We'll find out if we're right next spring!
