Dear Golden Globes: Gina Rodriguez & America Ferrera Aren’t the Same Person
Golden Globes 2016 nominations were announced this morning and, while some might be concerned with snubs and surprises, we’re fixated on a major Twitter flub.
The official Twitter account for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has landed itself in hot water after confusing two Latina actresses for one another: Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez and former Ugly Betty star America Ferrera.
EXCLUSIVE: Gina Rodriguez Wants a Jane the Virgin & Ugly Betty Crossover
The first — yes, first — time the organization mixed up America and Gina was when America was sitting onstage before the nomination ceremony began.
Then, when America was at the podium to reveal nominations, some poor soul tagged Gina as the person in the photo. Whoops, strike two! Not all Latinas look alike, guys.
Mistakes aside, Gina definitely has something to celebrate. She was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for the second year in a row (after winning last year).

That being said, Jane the Virgin itself was nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy last year but was overlooked in the category this time around.
Thus far the Golden Globes or HFPA haven’t given a response to the mishap so we’re just going to assume the fact that it was five in the morning was what led to it.
