Grey’s Anatomy Actress Debbie Allen Promoted to Executive Producer

Debbie Allen sure knows how to be a boss — and not just on-screen! The Grey’s Anatomy recurring guest star and frequent director has just been promoted to executive producer!

As Deadline reports, Debbie’s producing duties will start with the show’s all-but-confirmed 12th season.

All Grey’s fans know Debbie as Catherine Avery, urologist extraordinaire, heir and chairman of the Harper Avery Foundation, mother of Jackson (Jesse Williams), and newly-minted fiancée of Richard (James Pickens Jr.).

We imagine fewer fans know that she has directed seven episodes of Grey’s, as well as installments of Scandal, Empire, Jane the Virgin, and many other TV shows. In fact, it was her directing duties that got her the role of Catherine in the first place!

And did we mention she’s a choreographer? She choreographed the Oscars ceremonies for ten years, she choreographed (and starred in) the TV show Fame, she served as a judge for So You Think You Can Dance, and she runs the Debbie Allen Dance Academy along with her husband, Norm.

And did we mention that her big sis is Cosby Show star Phaylicia Rashad?

Debbie can do it all, she’s an invaluable member of the Grey’s family, and we can’t wait to see how she helps steer the ship next season!
