‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 14: Will Sara Ramirez Bring Callie Torres Back?

We bid goodbye to Dr. Callie Torres at the end of Grey’s Anatomy Season 12, when actress Sara Ramirez decided to take a timeout from the ABC hit.

But as long as a Grey’s character isn’t dead — and sometimes even if they are — there’s a chance we’ll see them again on the show. (Hello again, Teddy Altman!)

So was Season 13 enough of a break for Sara? Is there a chance we’ll see her back on the show in Season 14? Debbie Allen has the latest answer…

Though Callie’s final Season 12 scene ended up giving the character a graceful exit, we didn’t know it’d be Callie’s last scene for a while, if not for good.

Neither did Shonda Rhimes, as it turns out.

Just after the finale, though, Sara announced that she’d be “taking some welcome time off.”

But the Tony-winning actress said she’d “definitely continue” conversations with Shonda, and even as recently as this June, she said she’d be curious to see what it would be like to be an out queer, bisexual TV star when she “jump[s] back in.”

So now fans are wondering, perhaps more than ever before, if we’d see the good Dr. Torres darken the doors of Grey Sloan Memorial.

Unfortunately for all of us Calzona shippers, the news is not good.

“There are no plans at the moment” says actress/director/exec-producer Debbie Allen, whom we all know as Dr. Catherine Avery, in a new TVLine interview.

“We love her and we miss her, [but] there’s been no discussion of it.”

So that’s a bummer, right?

But have heart — Shonda Rhimes seems to want to continue Callie’s storyline as badly as we do.

“My heart is as broken as yours about Calzona, and I’m not even kidding about this,” she told Periscope viewers after the end of Season 12.

“I had always planned the storyline that ended with them getting back together and maybe that could still happen in the future, I don’t know.

“My fingers are crossed but for right now, Sara is taking a break, and I’m pretty proud of her for deciding to do so. So we’ll see what happens in the future.”

And Sara’s on-screen wife would welcome her back, too. (Arizona happens to be single again, after all)

“I feel like nothing is impossible,” actress Jessica Capshaw told TVLine in March.

“There’s a great chance that she would come back for something.”

OK, bad news time again. Even though this 41-year-old’s Grey’s family wants her back, ABC hasn’t exactly been doing its part to woo her back to the small screen.

This February and March, she publicly decried a a bi joke in one ABC show and apparent bi erasure in another.

“And as someone who worked for them for 10+ years, I am truly disheartened and disappointed, quite frankly,” she tweeted. “I will invest my brand where I’m respected.”
