Neil Patrick Harris Slams James Woods For Disparaging “Gender Creative” Boy
Many people nowadays applaud children who grow up exploring their gender identity.
Two-time Oscar nominee James Woods, however, seems to think those kids are future murderers who will dismember their parents.
And now, Neil Patrick Harris is taking James to task.
The online fracas started on July 10, when James posted a photo of a couple enjoying the Orange County Pride Parade in California with their young child.
“I love my gender creative son!” the mom’s poster reads.
“My son wears dresses and makeup,” says the dad’s poster. “Get over it!”
But James’s Twitter caption showed a morbid sense of “humor,” suggested a preference for gender normativity, and arguably revealed a bad case of bigotry.
“This is sweet,” the 70-year-old said, sarcastically.
“Wait until this poor kid grows up, realizes what you've done, and stuffs both of you dismembered into a freezer in the garage.”

The following day, Neil Patrick Harris called out the actor.
“Utterly ignorant and classless, Mr. Woods,” the How I Met Your Mother alum tweeted.
“I’m friends with this family. You know not of what you speak and should be ashamed of yourself.”
(James hasn’t responded to Neil’s comment as of the time of this posting.)

Though he’s not working much these days, you may remember James Woods from movies like Once Upon a Time in America, The Virgin Suicides, or Casino or from the TV show Shark.
He hasn’t had an on-screen role since 2014, though — at least, not one that’s listed on his IMDb filmography.
This controversy is far from James’s only social media drama.
In 2015, for example, he sued a Twitter user who called him a “cocaine addict.”
That defendant later died, and in a now-deleted tweet captured by Techdirt, the actor expressed hope that the Twitter user died “in agony” and “screaming [James’s] name.”
Tellingly, James’s tweet has only been retweeted 12k times and liked 29k times so far, while Neil’s tweet has been retweeted 18k times and liked 80k times, so… love trumps hate?
(And speaking of Trump, James’s pinned tweet at the moment is a post thanking the President for a retweet and for his “devotion” to America.)
In happier news: Lori Duron, the mom in the photo in question, wrote about the celebration in a blog post titled “My Gender Creative Son’s First Pride.”
“My sweet, fabulous, rainbow boy has never received so many compliments,” she said.
“He’s used to getting stares and whispers when we’re out in public. He’s not used to getting the smiles, hugs, and encouragement he received at Pride.”
