It doesn’t take too long after a couple is first married for that ever-popular question to start popping up: When are you going to have kids? Things are a little different for former Bachelor 16 contestant Jamie Otis and hubby Doug Hehner, however. While they’ve been married for nearly a year, they only just met on the day of their wedding (on reality show Married at First Sight).

As we can see on their spin-off, Married at First Sight: The First Year, now airing on FYI, the New Jersey-based pair are now happily married, but that doesn’t mean they are rushing into expanding their family. Well, at least one of them isn’t.

“I can’t wait to have a baby,” Jamie told Wetpaint Entertainment recently. “I’m a woman, and I work [as a nurse] in labor and delivery. I see babies being born every single day.”

And it’s not just her job that has the new Mrs. Hehner dealing with baby fever. “I’m not a young girl anymore,” Jamie stated, causing Doug, 32, to laugh at his 28-year-old wife. She continued, “I’m going to be 30 in a couple years and I’m ready.”

However, while the missus is just itching to add 10 tiny toes and 10 tiny fingers to her home, she notes that Doug is being a lot more cautious about the whole thing. “He is wiser than I am, more intelligent, and 10 times more patient. He has a to-do list before becoming a daddy.”

Doug then shared with us that first up on that list is swimming with Great White Sharks in South Africa — yikes! “As long as that shark doesn’t eat you, then that’s OK,” Jamie quipped. “I need a baby daddy.”

All jokes aside, Doug does seem to have a practical outlook when it comes to his growing brood — which already includes their dog, Lady. “When it comes down to it, we are in love but we don’t have much history together,” he admitted. “There’s definitely room to grow. I think it’s important to focus on us for a little bit and get that history behind us. Then we’ll move forward and have the greatest family ever.”

OK, but when they do have that “greatest family ever,” how many kids are we looking at?

We both come from pretty large families,” Doug mused. “In my head I’d always envisioned having three children but we’ll see where life takes us.” Jamie agrees that two or three might be the way to go — at least at first.

“I’d like to have a few of my own, and then later on, I want to adopt a child, not a baby,” she shared.

Married at First Sight: The First Year airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on FYI.
