‘Fresh Prince’ Mom Janet Hubert Disses Jada Pinkett Smith’s Oscars Boycott
Aunt Viv is not very happy with the Fresh Prince’s family.
Janet Hubert, who played the sitcom’s original Vivian Banks, went on a lengthy video rant about Jada Pinkett Smith’s decision to boycott the upcoming Oscar Awards because of the show seemingly shutting out black actors.
The 60-year-old actress begins her vlog by calling Will Smith’s wife “Miss Thing,” so you know things are about to get intense.
“Does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?" asked the Concussion actor’s former co-star.
Although Jada, 44, was surely upset her man didn’t get an Academy Awards nod for his sports drama, she never actually mentions him specifically in her boycott announcement.
Instead the Gotham alum seemed more upset about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy as a whole.
But Janet doesn’t seem to agree.
"The second thing, girlfriend, there's a lot of s—t going on in the world that you all don't seem to recognize,” she continued, bringing up gun violence and economic inequality. “[But] you're talking about some motherf—king actors and Oscars. It just ain't that deep.”
The former TV mom goes on to criticize Jada for possibly putting other actors of color’s careers on the line by recommending they skip such a big night.
After tons of disses, the four-minute video eventually gets to what Janet is still so peeved about: being ousted from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air in 1993. She was famously replaced by Daphne Maxwell after Season 3 and called the show’s star an “a—hole” in 2011.
After saying Will, 47, wouldn’t support cast-wide raises, she declares, “Karma must be a bitch, because now here you are.”
Well, maybe the Academy should send Janet the Smiths’s tickets? She seems like she would gladly sub in.
