Janet Jackson Gets Emotional on Stage at First Stop of ‘Unbreakable’ World Tour (VIDEO)
Janet Jackson is back and it’s like she never left!
The music legend kicked off the first leg of her Unbreakable World Tour on August 31 in Vancouver, and not only did the 49-year-old icon prove she still has the moves, but she also got a little emotional, too.
Janet, whose last tour was over four years ago, got a huge ovation from her fans at the start of the show and was overcome with so much emotion she was nearly brought to tears!
“I love you so much. So much,” Janet said to the crowd before adding “and I’ve missed you much!”
In addition to bringing a few of her classic hits, Janet also performed a tribute to her late brother, Michael Jackson, who would’ve celebrated his 57th birthday on August 29, and debuted a new track with rapper/singer Missy Elliott — with a projection of the rapstress across the stage!
While Janet appeared seemingly unchanged, fans did notice subtle differences in the singer’s appearance. For one, Janet donned a white and gold ensemble that covered her from neck-to-toe and she opted out of changing into anything revealing, as she’s done in the past.
As the New York Times wrote, “she avoided one big subset of her songwriting: her salacious, sometimes kinky whispers. That left [Janet] to play the many other, less titillating roles that have given her major hits and made her an enduring influence across pop and R&B.” However, by the end of the night, the NYT noted she “was the virtuous Janet Jackson, the one who was always there.”
