Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki Cancels Appearances for Personal Issue
Actor Jared Padalecki, known for his roles as Sam Winchester on Supernatural and Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls, has canceled several upcoming appearances in a series of tweets over what appears to be a personal issue.
On May 15, Jared tweets, "Dear #JIBCON and #AHBL6. I am in desperate and urgent need of my family. I am so sorry to tell you this but I must head home," effectively canceling his appearances at the Roman and Australian fan conventions over the weekend. He then tweets again, asking fans for support, "I need all of the love I can get right now. Please please give me a few seconds of your time and write me. #AlwaysKeepFighting." The hashtag #alwayskeepfighting is in reference to Jared's T-shirt campaign to raise awareness for depression, which Jared opened up about to Variety in March.
"I, for a long time, have been passionate about people dealing with mental illness and struggling with depression, or addiction, or having suicidal thoughts and, strangely enough, it’s almost like the life I live, as well," Jared tells Variety. "I, in the past, have had my own struggles of not [being] so happy with where I am in life, which is strange and I think it goes to show … Maybe a lot of people don’t know this, but Season 3, we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down. A doctor came to set and talked to me for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes and said: 'Jared, I think you’re clinically depressed' ... It’s not just people who can’t find a job, or can’t fit in in society that struggle with depression sometimes."
Whatever issues Jared is dealing with, we wish him the best and a speedy recovery.
