Jill and Derick Dillard Return From El Salvador After Friend’s Murder
Jill and Derick Dillard have returned to the U.S. following a missionary trip to El Salvador that ended in unspeakable tragedy.
Shortly before their return, the 26-year-old and her family — who had been in Central America since late February on the latest of many missionary trips — lost a local friend of theirs in a brutal murder.
The soon to be mother of two wrote of the murder in a recent blog post, where she recalls having dinner with their late friend just a few weeks before his body was found beside a nearby river.
"Even though we had spoke with our friend and his family about the realities of the dangers here, and especially in their area right now, we were shocked when we learned of his kidnap and murder," she writes in her family blog.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first tragedy to befall their friend's family, as the 26-year-old recounts her late friend had recently lost his cousin in similar circumstances.
"Now they have been spending most of the time in their home for fear of being kidnapped or killed as violence has escalated in their area."
It's unclear if the death of this friend caused the Dillards to cut their trip short, but they have nevertheless returned home. Jill is soon due to deliver her second child, a boy, who will join their firstborn son, Israel David Dillard.
As she prepared to return to the States, Jill asked blog readers to not only hold her family in their prayers but also, "Please pray for our friend's wife, son, daughter, granddaughter and other relatives."
Our thoughts are with the Dillards, as well as their friend's other loved ones. We're glad Jill and the rest of her family returned safely!
