Not only is the Grammy-winner’s baby daddy drama on full display, she’s currently being sued by a former employee who she claims has already been paid.
After working for Kandi from 2013 until he was fired in February 2016, Johnnie Winston III filed a lawsuit against the reality star and her company Kandi Koated Entertainment.
He claims she failed to pay him the required Georgia state minimum wage and overtime wages for time spent working in her studio, running her errands, event planning, attending various meetings and cooking for special events.
Johnnie claims he did handyman work in Kandi’s studio, the Kandi Factory, and assisted her with a play entitled “A Mother’s Love, working 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day.
As his responsibilities increased, he began helping to plan big events for the singer, including her wedding to Todd Tucker, Bedroom Kandi convention and her Business Woman’s Masterclass, according to TheJasmineBrand.
The disgruntled employee claims he was both fired and rehired between April & May of 2015, saying he was never paid for his work.
Now, he’s suing for pay covering his entire three-year employment, as well as liquidated damages equal to back pay and benefits. He also throws in some attorney fees for flavor.
Kandi’s fighting back in court, dismissing allegations she didn’t pay him or that she violated any labor laws in her state.
The mom of two admits he was an independent contractor who performed various duties on her behalf, but she claims to have paid him for his services already, and is now demanding the case be dismissed and for him to cover her legal fees.
