Kanye West Hospitalized For Psychiatric Evaluation — Report (UPDATE)
UPDATE #3 (11/22/2016 9:26 a.m. ET):
Paramedics described Kanye West’s breakdown as a “psychiatric emergency,” as heard on the Fire Department dispatch calls obtained by TMZ.
UPDATE #2 (11/22/2016 8:46 a.m. ET):
Kim Kardashian was scheduled to make her return to the spotlight at the Angel Ball in New York on Monday, November 21, but changed her plans after husband Kanye West’s hospitalization.
Sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian joined mom Kris Jenner at the event to honor their father, Robert Kardashian, but the 36-year-old ditched the event last minute to be with the rapper, according to E! News.
UPDATE (11/21/2016 at 10:40 p.m. ET):
Kanye West was reportedly at the home of his trainer Harley Pasternak when those around him decided to call the police. He was promptly hospitalized (see next slide).
Yeezy, 39, was being treated by his personal doctor for "severe sleep deprivation" at the fitness pro’s house and began “acting erratically,” TMZ writes.
When police arrived, they called the L.A. fire department to send paramedics.
Although Kanye’s management team and law enforcement urged the hip hop star to seek treatment, he was still forced into handcuffs for his “safety” during transport to UCLA Medical Center, insiders say.
Original story (11/21/2016 at 9:15 p.m. ET):
Kim Kardashian’s husband was reportedly hospitalized today, November 21, for a psychiatric evaluation following a police-mandated welfare check.
The “Fade” rapper was rushed to UCLA Medical Center in handcuffs after law enforcement responded to a 1:20 p.m. PT call for a welfare check, TMZ writes.
It’s unclear where Kanye was at the time cops were looking for him, but the 39-year-old reportedly wasn’t at the Kardashian-West residency.
However, it’s possible the father of two was already seeking medical help for "severe sleep deprivation" before paramedics rushed him to the hospital.
The performer was being checked out by his personal doctor when it was decided he needed more intense medical care, insiders say.
It’s believed someone at the office — “possibly the physician” — realized Yeezy “needed to be admitted.” Although, he didn’t accept the diagnosis willingly.
Kanye didn’t “want to go” to the hospital and was forced into restraints, law enforcement sources allege.
He has not been accused of any criminal activity and was only handcuffed for his “his own health and safety,” the local NBC station reports.
The Grammy winner is now under observation.
The Kardashian clan has yet to comment on the alarming situation, which comes just weeks after Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint in Paris and robbed.
It's believed the middle Kardashian sister headed to NYC today for her first public appearance since her attack, but "bailed" after Kanye's emergency. Kim is likely now heading back to L.A.
