Is ‘Swish Swish’ Really About Taylor Swift? Katy Perry Says…
But is that really the case?
Just judging from the lyrics, the song is very clearly taking aim at someone who's ticked off the 32-year-old pop star.
"Your game is tired/You should retire/You're 'bout cute as/An old coupon expired," Katy croons at one point, while in the chorus she sings, "So keep calm, honey, I'ma stick around/For more than a minute, get used to it/Funny my name keeps comin' outcho mouth."
Katy was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Friday, where the host asked her if the scathing lyrics were about "anyone we know."
The singer paused before carefully answering, "I think it's a great anthem for people to use whenever someone's trying to hold you down or bully you."
That's clearly a non-answer, but anyone reading between the lines would see this song as a response to Taylor's 2014 hit "Bad Blood," which was widely speculated to have been written about Katy.
One person who sees "Swish Swish" as a response is music video director and T-Swift squad member Joseph Kahn, who wrote on Twitter, "If you're gonna do a diss track, at least put a decent hook in it."
Do you think "Swish Swish" is about Taylor?
