Kelly Clarkson Says She’s “Not Above a Spanking” When Disciplining Her Kids
Kelly Clarkson is not ashamed of her parenting techniques.
Though the American Idol winner is as sweet as can be, she recently revealed she is not opposed to spanking when disciplining her two children.
Oh c’mon, we have a hard time believing 3-year-old River and 1-year-old Remington ever do anything bad!
“I’m not above a spanking, which people aren’t necessarily into,” she told a Rochester-based radio station.
“And I don’t mean like hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking.”
In fact, the mother of two’s parents would spank her when she was a child.
“My parents spanked me and I did fine in life and I feel fine about it,” she shared.
Though she thinks it’s fine to use for disciplinary purposes, she understands why not all parents are fans.
“So that’s a tricky thing when you’re out in public, ’cause then people are like, you know, they think that’s wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking,” she continued.
“I warn her. I’m like, ‘Hi, I’m gonna spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now. Like, this is ridiculous.'”
The Voice coach claims her Southern upbringing influenced her parenting style.
“I’m from the South, y’all, so we get spankings,” the pop star said.
“My mom would call the principal if I ever ended up in the principal’s office and give permission for her to spank me … I’m a well-rounded individual with a lot of character, so I think it’s fine.”
We think you turned out pretty great, Kel!
