The very public, emotional moment was also the first time many people in the American Horror Story actress’s family learned about the sexual assault.
The 29-year-old’s grandma Ronnie (middle) and aunt Sheri (right) both called her the day after her headline-making act, according to a recent Instagram upload.
“With tears in her eyes,” Gaga said of the conversation with her grandmother, “I could hear them welling through the phone she said to me, ‘My darling granddaughter, I've never been more proud of you than I am today.’”
The Golden Globe winner — who was born Stefani Germanotta — seemed shocked by the support for something she thought was “evil” and “her fault” for a decade.
“Something I have kept a secret for so long that I was more ashamed of than anything,” she continued, “Became the thing the women in my life were the most proud of.”
Ronnie and Sheri aren’t the only people proud of the EGOT hopeful. Kesha, Jaime King, and Jade Roper all applauded the pop star for her track from The Hunting Ground, a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses.
And Gaga’s fiance Taylor Kinney is clearly head-over-heels. What’s not to love?
