Lady Gaga “Til It Happens to You” Music Video Tackles Campus Rape
Mother Monster deserves all of the applause for educating us all on an important topic.
Lady Gaga — with the co-writing help of Diane Warren — released a new music video yesterday titled “Til It Happens to You” and it isn’t your average Lady Gaga clip. It’s for The Hunting Ground, a documentary released earlier this year, which sheds light on campus rape in the United States.
“The following contains graphic content that may be emotionally upsetting but reflects the reality of what is happening daily on college campuses,” the title card before the clip reads.
The music video is gorgeously shot, features a haunting vocal performance, and is slightly disturbing. Give it a watch:
While Lady Gaga, who is set to star on American Horror Story later this fall, doesn’t appear in the music video, that doesn’t mean it’s without a few memorable faces. Both Nikki Reed (of Twilight fame) and Kiersey Clemons (from the recent hit film Dope) star. See what Nikki had to say about her involvement in the process:
".@diane_warren & I made "Til It Happens To You" for people all over the world who suffer from painful life experiences. #TheHuntingGround," Lady Gaga tweeted. "We hope u feel our love & solidarity through the song & perhaps find some peace in knowing u r not alone through this film #TilItHappensToYou."
According to Lady Gaga and the music video’s YouTube page, proceeds from the sale of the song will go toward organizations helping survivors of sexual assault.
