Lauren Bushnell on Ben Higgins Split: Our “Emotional Connection Fizzled”
Just last week, the Bachelor 2016 star got real in a lengthy Instagram diatribe about his respect for his ex, and now Lauren herself is sharing her perspective.
Though the couple only announced the end of their 18-month engagement a couple weeks back, from the sounds of things, it was a long time coming.
In a new interview with People, the 27-year-old gal explains physical chemistry was not an issue for the Season 20 pair — even today.
The real problem, it seems, was with their emotional relationship — or lack thereof.
“It was more so the emotional connection that fizzled,” the Portland native shares.
And it didn’t fizzle all on its own. In fact, sounds like Lauren attributes much of their strife to their Freeform reality show, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?.
“I remember during filming Happily Ever After, I was so stressed out,” she starts.
She continues, “We couldn’t even communicate with one another when we were filming Happily Ever After.”
For the record, the show started filming way back in late spring 2016, only six months after the couple got engaged in November 2015.
So much for those saying these two didn’t try to make things work.
The former flight attendant admits, “We were just stressed and tired physically. Emotionally, I just felt like it wasn’t there anymore.”
Still, they persisted and even tried to get back on track once the show finished airing in fall 2016.
Rumors they were on the rocks emerged in early 2017, but LaurBen insisted they were still together and happy for four months after that.
Last week, Lauren confirmed they are “completely done” right now, though she also hinted she’s not completely opposed to working things out in the future.
“I mean, I feel like I have no idea what’s going to happen in my life moving forward,” she stated.
She added, “I’m kind of open to all things, but… yeah.”’
One thing she’s not open to right now is dating — Ben or someone else.
“I need a second to, like, calm down — breathe,” she shared.
Part of that seems to have included getting her career back on track, as she moves back to her former homebase of L.A..
She also continues to update her lifestyle blog, and spends a lot of time with her family.
In the last week alone, she’s posted photos with her mom and her sister, Mollie.
Seems like she’ll be just fine — though we can’t help but wonder if these two might reunite someday, out of the public eye.
Bachelor fans can dream, right?
