Leonardo DiCaprio and His Parents Celebrate Oscar Win
The whole Internet was proud of Leonardo DiCaprio for finally taking home Oscar gold last night, February 28 — winning the Best Actor category for his role in The Revenant — but we can’t imagine anyone was prouder than his parents, Irmelin Indenbirken and George DiCaprio.
That said, you'd never know they were his parents to look at photos of them. Some celebs look like spitting images of their folks, but Leo is not one of them!
Nevertheless, both Ma (Leo’s date to the ceremony) and Pa (pictured with second wife Peggy Ann Farrar) seemed to be in high spirits at Hollywood after parties as their only child together basked in the Oscar glow.
So what can we tell you about the people whose genes are responsible for Leo's matinée-idol looks?
Turns out, art runs in the family. George is a performance artist and comic book distributor, and Irmelin is a legal secretary who was working in Florence’s Uffizi Gallery when she was pregnant with him.
Leo told ABC News his parents are “Bohemians in every sense of the word.”
They named him Leonardo while Irmelin was still pregnant. Apparently, he started kicking as she and George looked at a portrait of Leonardo da Vinci in the aforementioned gallery.
“My dad, being the man that picks up on cosmic messages, said that ‘His name must be Leonardo,’” Leo said.
Cosmic messages, indeed! 41 years later, Leo is an artist getting just as much respect as his namesake.
