Liam Payne’s ‘X Factor’ Audition With Cheryl Will Now Creep You Out
When Liam Payne first auditioned for the UK’s X Factor he was just a 14-year-old old boy with Pete Wentz hair and a Justin Timberlake vest.
The One Direction star’s pregnant girlfriend witnessed the then-child’s 2008 television debut, since Cheryl — previously known as Cheryl Fernandez Varsini, before that Cheryl Cole, and now, apparently, simply Cheryl — was a judge on the singing competition.
Let’s just say the 33-year-old was immediately impressed.
Liam, now 23, chose Frank Sinatra’s romantic hit “Fly Me to the Moon” and Cheryl was the only judge beaming at him during his performance.
In a now-uncomfortable moment, the British pop star smiles brightly at the young teen — the next lyrics he sings are, “Baby kiss me.”
Although everyone on the panel was supportive of the teenager, Cheryl made it her job to pile on the compliments.
“I think you’re really cute,” she told the future father of her baby. “I think you’ve got charisma. You got this little cheeky wink.”
While Liam didn’t make it onto X Factor that season, the love fest did continue two years later when he tried out once again.
The emo-haired 16-year-old sang the Arthur Hamilton-written “Cry Me a River” and Cheryl couldn’t stop smiling throughout his rendition.
“You’ve definitely got it,” she assured the teenager. “Whatever it is. You’ve got it.”
What Liam and Cheryl have now, eight years later, is a baby on the way.
“Cheryl has told close friends and family the very exciting news that she is expecting her first child,” an insider tells Brit tabloid The Sun after the pop star debuted her pregnancy bump on Tuesday, November 29.
“She is absolutely ecstatic.”
Hopefully Liam and Cheryl’s little one never asks about the first time mom and dad met.
