Melissa McBride: 6 Things to Know About the Walking Dead Actress
Whether or not Carol Peletier makes it to the end of this season, given her exile from the group, we'll still be huge fans of the actress behind her, Melissa McBride. The gorgeous 48-year-old has had a long and full career in entertainment, including a couple of appearances on some of our favorite shows! Read on for some fun facts about Melissa, including why she'd be a perfect match for IRL Daryl Dixon, Norman Reedus.
She Used to Be a Casting Director. Under her full name — Melissa Suzanne McBride — she worked as a commercial casting director in Georgia for around a decade. "I was acting full time, always living in Atlanta, and just decided 10, 11 years ago that I wanted to try something different," she admitted in an AMC interview.
She Kissed Dawson Leery. Melissa first played Nina, a film buff that charms Dawson after his breakup with Jen, in Dawson's Creek Season 1 Episode, "Road Trip." Yep, Melissa got to kiss James Van Der Beek!
She later returned to the show in Season 6 for the first part of the series finale, "All Good Things," except playing a different character.
She's Worked With First-Season Showrunner Frank Darabont Twice. Melissa had a small role in the 2007 film adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist, adapted and directed by Frank. "He didn’t direct any of the episodes that I was in, and I didn’t even see him until sometime near the end of shooting. I turn around and there’s Frank," remembered Melissa. "I go up to him, I’m like, 'Thank you so much for this.' He was like, 'This is so great that you’re here.' Then I turn around and turn back and he’s gone. Who is this man?"
She Gets Along Great With Co-Star Norman Reedus. Good news for Caryl shippers — even if this OTP coming to fruition seems unlikely at this point, Melissa said in an AMC Q&A that she loves her scenes with Norman.
"He is such a fun guy to be around and he throws in some great stuff. He’s always unpredictable and organic," Melissa dished. "It really is something that’s evolved. We had a great sit down in Season 2, and we were talking about our own lives. He gets me and I get him and I feel like Carol and Daryl are sort of the same way."
Animals and photography? She and Norman have so much in common that, in lieu of a Caryl ship, the actors IRL should probably just get together.
