One Direction Talks Zayn Malik’s Departure: “We Were a Little Bit Angry” (VIDEO)

On the May 14 episode of the Late Late Show, the four remaining members of One Direction — Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson — discussed Zayn Malik’s departure from the mega-successful boy band publically for the first time. You can watch the interview below.

After some small talk, host James Corden dove right in and brought up Zayn, first asking the boys if they’re still in touch with their former bandmate. “Yeah, there's been a bit of back and forth," Louis said, vaguely hinting at the pair's uncomfortable run-ins on social media. "I think we're on good terms with him.”

This then prompted James to ask directly about the Twitter feud between Louis and Zayn, which occurred around the release of one of his first solo tracks produced by Naughty Boy, whom many feel may have poached Zayn from 1D.

“I've never been very good at biting my tongue, maybe I get it off my mom. It's just one of those things,” Louis admitted with a smile. “Twitter's great for connecting with the fans but also if you feel like saying something you probably shouldn't, it's also good for that as well. Or bad in this case.”

Social media beef aside, Louis “it’s all good in the hood” with the pair now.

Still, Liam revealed that it was a tough pill to swallow when he and his fellow band members learned that Zayn wanted out of 1D.

“At first we were a little bit angry. We were surprised, but I think we all knew the general vibe that Zayn was feeling,” he said. “There were certain parts of this job that Zayn loved and certain parts of the job that he didn't. If you don't like your job, you've got to follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go. There's no argument with that.”

But, as the saying goes, time heals all wounds. Now that several weeks have passed since Zayn ditched One Direction the boys say they only want the best for him. “We wish him the best of luck with whatever he gets up to,” Liam dished.

Since the fellas are used to performing as a fivesome, would they ever replace Zayn and welcome someone new into the group? “No,” Harry quickly replied.

And there you have it!
