Oscars 2017: ‘Gary From Chicago’ Was Released From Prison Just Days Before Show

The man who completely stole the show during the 2017 Oscars, best known as “Gary from Chicago,” was reportedly in prison just days before the big event!

In fact, Gary served nearly 20 years in prison for multiple felonies. Read on for more details.

Gary Cole and his fiancée, Vickie Vines, joined in on the Oscars fun as the tourists host Jimmy Kimmel invited inside the Dolby Theater on Sunday night.

He posed with Mahershala Ali — and his Oscar! — and gave Nicole Kidman a kiss on her hand.

The pair even got fake-married by Denzel Washington and took pictures with all the A-list celebrities sitting in the first few rows.

But, what makes the whole situation even crazier is the fact Gary was released from the slammer three days before Hollywood’s biggest night.

“Change is possible. It's a sad day to be in prison for 20 years and not be able to be a dad, granddad to your children,” he told ABC7 following the event.

“You know what my son told me today, man, and I almost came to tears. He said he's proud of me. So to hear your children say that they're proud of me means the world to me.”

In fact, Gary met Vicki behind bars and the pair are planning to get married this summer.

Thankfully, there is one actor who is ready to officiate the ceremony.

Anthony Anderson, the star of Black-ish, said he would like to marry the couple since he’s officially ordained!

"The couple from Chicago, I am actually ordained to marry people, so if they are here, I will marry them. It didn't really count when Denzel did it,” the actor revealed.

“I'm actually ordained to marry people in the state of California. So if they're around, I was trying to get them up here so I could marry them on this show. Why wait 'til July?"

Well, there you go! Are you surprised about Gary’s prison sentence?
