Réné Angelil, Husband of Céline Dion, Dies of Cancer at 73
Céline Dion’s song “My Heart Will Go On” has even more emotional resonance now: Her husband, Réné Angelil, has passed away at age 73.
A representative for the couple announced Réné died “after a long and courageous battle against cancer” this morning (January 14) at the family’s home in Las Vegas, where Céline has been performing in a residency.
Réné, a singer himself, served as Céline’s manager for most of her career, since even before their 1994.
The couple shares three children: 14-year-old René-Charles and 5-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
After taking a break to care for Réné, Céline resumed her residency in August at René’s insistence.
“That first show, it will be fragile,” the 47-year-old told USA Today then. “There will be moments. Of emptiness, laughter, awkwardness, tearing up. But that's the point of coming back — otherwise, I just release an album.
“I think I’ve got this. For now. When it hits me, it’s going to hit me. But my biggest job is to tell my husband, we’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot.”
Our thoughts are with Céline and her children.
