Russell Brand Blames Divorce on Katy Perry Being Too Busy
Marriage is hard, even for celebrities.
Five years after divorcing Katy Perry, Russell Brand is finally opening up on what happened — both the good and the bad.
In an emotional appearance on John Bishop: In Conversation With, the comedian spilled on what caused the split. He cited Katy's busy schedule as a pop star.
"Katy was obviously very, very occupied and busy. I was occupied and busy but not to the same degree," he said.
The British star went on to talk about how fame may have escalated the fallout.
“The marriage didn’t last for a very long time and I think that is to do with the undulated nature of fame and that, living in those conditions and what was happening,” he said.
But Russell made it clear there's no bad blood between the two exes. He even admits he still gets a little emotional when he hears about Katy nowadays.
“I still feel very warm towards her,” he said. “I feel like, when I hear about her or see her, ‘Aww, there’s that person. There’s that person in the world.’”
The pair wed in 2010 in India. Almost immediately facing rumors of trouble in paradise, the couple split after only 14 months of marriage in 2012.
“Being in love is the dream, and then the reality of making it work with the marriage is not like the movies," Katy said in her 2012 documentary, Part of Me.
Individually, the two stars seem to have moved on. Russell recently welcomed his first daughter with his fiancée, Laura Gallacher, while Katy recently split from Orlando Bloom after about a year of dating.
Best wishes to Katy and Russell.
