Once Upon a Time Season 3 Finale Spoilers: What to Expect
This Sunday, May 11, Once Upon a Time Season 3 comes to a close with an epic two-part finale — Season 3, Episodes 21, "Snow Drifts" and Episode 22, "There's No Place Like Home" — and we cannot wait. From everything we've heard, these two hours are going to completely blow us out of the water.
What can we expect from this two-parter? While the showrunners have kept the major twists under wraps, they've dropped a lot of hints, so we've gathered all of the biggest hints, sneak peeks, and spoilers about the episode right here to help prepare you for all the drama.
First, let's start with the official synopsis of the episode:
While Mary Margaret and David celebrate the naming of their son at a coronation in Granny's Diner, Emma and Hook are pulled into Zelena's time portal and find themselves in the Enchanted Forest of the past. But in their quest to discover a way back, they must be careful not to change ANYTHING or risk altering the lives of their friends and family — as well as their very own existence.
You read that right: Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) are going to hit the past. Based on the promos it seems safe to say they land right around the events of Season 1, Episode 3 ("Snow Falls") which, for those who've forgotten, features Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming's (Josh Dallas) forrest meet cute (this is probably also why we'll be seeing Princess Abigail). Yeah, they definitely don't want to mess that up; if Emma's parents don't fall in love... Well, we've all seen Back to the Future, right?
While the idea of throwing time travel into the mix might seem crazy, we're actually really excited to see what showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz do with it. After all, they do come from Lost which, despite its flaws, boasts some of the best time-travel related episodes in TV history.
Along with Princess Abigail, the official synopsis reveals some other returning faces to expect, including Geppetto, Red, Blue, King Midas, Black Beard, Aurora, and Belle's dad, Sir Maurice. Hmm... We wonder who we'll be seeing in the present, and who's only in flashback.
The synopsis says that we'll see a celebration after the Snowing baby is named. Well, you can expect that name to be worth paying attention to. Ginnifer Goodwin calls the name "absolutly significant." She also adds that the name "was an excellent move — and very unexpected." Most fans are speculating that the baby will turn out to be another character from a fairy tale, though we suppose it could also be a name with emotional significance, like naming the baby after Regina (Reginald?) or Neal.
We also know this episode will feature a splashy wedding (and apparently that wording is not a "wink-wink" suggesting it's an Eric and Ariel wedding). Who's tying the knot? Rumbelle would be the obvious answer, but after Rumple's (Robert Carlyle) betrayal we're not placing bets just yet...
The promo for the episode teases that we'll be going somewhere new next season, and we'll find out where in the last few minutes of the finale. We wonder if this new location will be linked to the time travel. Maybe Emma and Hook will have accidently changed something, and that causes the cast to need to go somewhere else?
