True Detective Spoilers — What to Expect From the Rest of Season 2
The second season of HBO’s True Blood debuted on June 21 to strong numbers and middling reviews. Though 3.2 million viewers tuned in, many took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the premiere.
Still, we’re nonetheless hooked on the crime drama, with Season 2 taking us to the seedy underbelly of the fictional town of Vinci, California — a fictional town probably based on Vernon, California — and exposing the self-interested, self-loathing, and self-destructive characters therein.
Spoilers about the show are about as sparse as laughs are on-screen, but here’s what we’ve managed to dig up about the rest of Season 2.
Det. Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams) will lead an investigation of the city manager’s murder.
As you can see in this promo, State Attorney Katherine Davis (The Wire’s Michael Hyatt) makes her commander of the detail, with Det. Ray Velcoro as her second-in-command.
The storyline may involve a “secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system.”
HBO said as much in a press release, but creator Nic Pizzolatto has since backtracked, per Den of Geek: “That was a comment from very early in the process, and something I ended up discarding in favor of closer character work and a more grounded crime story.”
Season 2 won’t be as dark as Season 1.
But not by much. Per Den of Geek, HBO exec Michael Lombardo said, "It's still dark. Nic explores the darkness in people's souls. ... It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride. Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul.”
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more!
