‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers: Heretics Bring Lots of “Darkness”

Remember how gloomy Mystic Falls looked in the final moments of The Vampire Diaries Season 6? Yeah, blame that on the heretics. Come the Season 7 premiere, we’ll see a wave of “darkness” come over the small Virginian hamlet and things will get turnt up.

Lily Salvatore’s family of heretics — vampire and witch hybrids — are back in the present day thanks to Kai Parker setting them free from their prison world and, while it sounds like they’ll have some difficulty adjusting at first, they’ll soon wreak havoc all over town.

“They’re pretty far from anything the show has seen so far, which is really exciting,” Elizabeth Blackmore, who plays Valerie, tells TVLine about the gang of villains. “There’s some funny adjusting at first — they’re waking up 100 years in the future where there are iPhones, computers, and all that — but there’s also some darkness going on.”

Even Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore, knows what’s up. He says while the heretics are “funny” at first, they’ll quickly do something “pretty horrible” in the premiere.

Perhaps the problem that arises has something to do with Valerie, who Elizabeth describes as the heretic on the outs with the rest of the crew and previews “a lot of bickering.”

“Valerie is more of a loner because she’s quite often left out of things,” she explains. “She tends to be a little moodier than the others.”

As for how Lily’s kids get along with her, that relationship is a bit more complicated. Paul says Stefan has empathy for his long-lost mother, though Damon Salvatore feels differently.

“It’s not cool at all that she left us and had this entirely new family that we’re not even a part of,” Ian Somerhalder dishes. “She treats us like we’re outcasts, like we’re the bastard children. There are a lot of dynamics floating around, so I don’t know where Damon’s going to go from here.”

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 premiere Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
