Ian Somerhalder Claims ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Is Ending With Season 8

Ian Somerhalder has basically declared that The Vampire Diaries is ending — after the already-confirmed Season 8, of course.

The 37-year-old actor shocked everyone by dropping the juicy tidbit at Walker Stalker Con in Nashville yesterday, April 10, and the event has the tweet to prove it.

NEWS: Which TVD Star Is Headed to Supernatural?

“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice," the Twitter account for the festival wrote beside a photo the former Lost actor.

Elsewhere in the feed, the organization quotes the Louisiana native as saying the first two seasons of filming were “really special” and Season 1 is his “favorite.”

Given that added detail, it’s in line with what Nikki Reed’s husband recently said when confirming his return and admitting that he hoped Season 8 would be like Season 1.

NEWS: Who Is Going to Survive TVD Season 7?

While Ian has made quite the declaration about the show’s future, The CW tells The Hollywood Reporter that no decision has been made yet regarding Season 9 and beyond.

This news comes on the heels of Kat Graham confirming that Season 8 of the supernatural drama would be her last and co-creator Julie Plec admitting that she was taken by surprise because she hadn’t thought that far into the future yet.

The Vampire Diaries airs Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
