‘The Vampire Diaries’ Finally Reveals How Elena Gilbert Comes Back in Finale

Ever since Nina Dobrev blessed us with the news that she would be returning to Mystic Falls for the series finale, we’ve wondered how Elena Gilbert will wake up from her sleeping spell.

Finally, The Vampire Diaries finale spoilers reveal just how Elena comes back.

And bonus: We don’t have to be worried about Bonnie Bennett’s life — for now at least.

We all know by now that supervillain Kai Parker cursed Elena, tying her life to her BFF Bonnie, so that Elena can only wake up from her sleep when Bonnie dies.

As if Bonnie didn’t already have enough to deal with.

It definitely looked like we might be seeing the demise of our favorite Bennett witch at the end of The Vampire Diaries Season 8, Episode 15, but don’t panic because Stefan is about to explain.

The returning Vicki Donovan (surprise!) rang the Maxwell bell and Bonnie got that terrible, Siren-like, ear-splitting headache and collapsed onto the floor in front of Stefan.

(And yes, this was right after she almost burned to death because Bonnie’s life is a series of tragedies.)

But in a new clip from the series finale, Stefan insinuates that Bonnie (thank goodness) is still alive, even though her heart did stop for a few moments.

So yes, Bonnie technically “died,” but only for a hot second. So no, all the theories that Kai would break his spell or witch Bonnie would figure out a way to break it aren’t coming true.

Bonnie dies, and Elena wakes up, just not exactly how Kai intended.

"Earlier, Bonnie's heart stopped," Stefan says to Damon in a sneak peek clip from ETOnline. "She said she saw Elena."

It’s the one missing piece to the spoiler we already saw in the video of the Salvatore brothers discovering Elena’s empty casket.

Oh, and the other new piece to that extended video? Finally we get to see the Delena reunion we have been waiting three seasons for.

It would have been so much harder to watch if we didn’t know Bonnie wasn’t also alive.

But don’t think we can ride off into the sunset just yet. Julie Plec has already said a main character will die in the finale.

For now, just watch this clip and get all your Bon Bon and Damon and Delena feels out.

The Vampire Diaries series finale airs Friday, March 10 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
