Steven R. McQueen Confirms Jeremy Gilbert Will Return to ‘The Vampire Diaries’

We crossed our fingers it would happen, but now we have official confirmation from Steven R. McQueen himself: Jeremy Gilbert will be back to Mystic Falls for The Vampire Diaries series finale.

Phew! First Elena, then John Gilbert, now Jeremy!

Steven first teased his triumphant return on Instagram with this post from the set:

Saying hi to some old friends

“Saying hi to some old friends,” Steven low-key captioned the photo.

He wasn’t done there, though. The actor also shared a pic of himself in what looks like the Salvatore house.

Been a while

Hopefully this means we’ll be seeing more than just a quick cameo from our favorite vampire hunter.

Just one pressing matter though: Um, why is Jeremy standing near a Mystic Falls ambulance?

Considering he has already died approximately 6,423 times already, let’s hope he’s the one driving the medical transport van and not the injured person in the back of it.

Last we saw Jeremy Gilbert, he popped into Mystic Falls to say goodbye to his sister Elena when she was put to “rest” until Bonnie dies, and presumably until he dies, too.

Because we haven’t seen him since before the three-year time jump, fans definitely have a lot of questions about what Jeremy is up to now.

Is he still a vampire hunter? Is he in a relationship? Does he talk to Alaric? Does he know Damon and Stefan went devil-serving crazy? Or that Tyler’s dead?

Julie Plec and Steven, we are dying to know. Help!

Candice Accola already spilled that The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will have another, smaller, time jump. Will this give Bonnie and Jeremy a chance to reunite?

The once-OTP was far overshadowed by the Bonnie-Enzo love story, and it’s unclear if, less than three years later, Bonnie would be ready to move on from Enzo’s tragic, devastating death.

But let’s not forget, both Bonnie and Jeremy died during the course of their romantic relationship (what a crazy world Mystic Falls is), so Bonnie has definitely already been through the worst and survived.

We’ll have to wait just a handful of more episodes to see when the Gilbert family reunites!

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
