The Walking Dead’s Rick Will Die “Eventually,” Says Robert Kirkman

The Walking Dead Powers That Be have often said no character on the AMC drama is safe from death, and comic book creator Robert Kirkman just drove that point home once more.

RK hosted a Reddit AMA on May 16 in promotion of his upcoming Cinemax series, Outcast, and he was inundated with TWD questions.

First up, one inquiring mind wanted to know what lies ahead for TV/comic book protagonist Rick Grimes.

“Do Rick die?” user maxforce54 asked during the AMA.

“He do eventually,” Robert answered, mocking the user’s grammar.

While the eventual death of Andrew Lincoln’s character doesn’t come as a huge surprise to us, we don’t think his time has come just yet.

Yes, Negan killed someone in Season 6 finale, but Rick didn’t make our list of top contenders.

Speaking of the Season 6 ender, Robert told another user, Kittensofdeath, he was surprised by the impassioned reaction to the episode. “We expected a big reaction. I will admit it's possible this exceeded our expectations,” he explained.

Furthermore, Robert once again reiterated what’s to come in Season 7 will make the cliffhanger and the wait worthwhile.

“I personally liked it,” he said of the finale. “Scott Gimple and I spent many months going over exactly how to stage it and how to adapt that scene. Many options were discussed. I do strongly believe that when you watch the Season 7 premiere (if you do) you will see the two halves of the story and it will all make sense why we did what we did.”

He added, “Season 7 is very strong, we know what's coming. If you stick around... you'll like where we're taking things.”

Don’t worry Robert, as frustrated as we are we’ll still be sticking around for more!

The Walking Dead Season 7 will premiere in the fall on AMC.
