Sarah Wayne Callies Saved Carol From Death on ‘The Walking Dead’
When you get any group of cast members from The Walking Dead together in one room you never know what might be revealed.
The six remaining original cast members — Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs, Steven Yeun, Melissa McBride, Norman Reedus, and Lennie James — recently caught up for a roundtable discussion with Entertainment Weekly about the groundbreaking show that altered all of their lives, and the sextet revealed one crucial piece of information previously unknown to fans and even key player, Melissa McBride.

When asked why these six specifically are still around, Norman said, “There’s a certain story that we’re telling, and part of that story involves loss. I don’t know if there’s anything in particular about any of us and why we’re still here, I think we’re just part of that story.”
But as it turns out, this group of OGs would’ve looked a bit different today had it not been for Sarah Wayne Callies, who played Lori and died during childbirth in Season 3.
“For a few weeks it was going to be Carol and Lori [who died in the fourth episode of Season 3], Andy explained. “And Sarah, in her good grace and class, stepped in and said, ‘That’s a terrible mistake.’ And so she knew that she was going, but she fought for you to stay.”

This cast always describes themselves as one big family, but Sarah’s selflessness takes that bond to a whole new level.
What’s more? Melissa, whose character was ultimately spared because of Sarah’s intervention, had no idea her co-star went to bat for her.
“I’m going to faint,” the 50-year-old said upon learning the news.

Not that we want to lose any more of the original cast members, but if someone minor wants to step up and do what Sarah did for Melissa for Steven (whose character is looking at a likely death this season), we wouldn’t mind!
The Walking Dead Season 6 midseason premiere airs Sunday, February 14, at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
