Walking Dead Season 6 to Premiere on October 11, 2015

At the joint panel for The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead at Comic Con 2015 today, July 10, the Season 6 premiere date for TWD was officially confirmed. As we expected, Season 6 is expected to kick off on October 11, 2015 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC with a 90-minute premiere.

What can we expect from this season? The highly-anticipated super-trailer, which also made its debut today, promises an action-packed season that kicks off in the Alexandria Safe Zone. Unfortunately, the ASZ is looking less and less safe these days. In addition to the “multiple threats” showrunner Scott Gimple recently promised us, we can see that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan Jones (Lennie James) are at odds, as they’re both jockeying for control of Alexandria but have very different ideas of how to live in this world.

Towards the very end of the trailer we see that someone (presumably a wolf) has a gun aimed at Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) head. Not. good.

An October 11 premiere means that TWD is following a schedule to the one they’ve used in years past. Assuming the season is once again split into two eight-episode chunks and all eight episodes air consecutively (again, just as they have in the past) the always awesome midseason finale should air on November 29, 2015. As a frame of reference, the Season 5 midseason finale “ Coda” aired on November 30, 2014.

After the requisite break between the two halves, we can expect that the back eight episodes of the season will likely bow sometime in early February, meaning the Season 6 finale will air sometime in late March/early April 2016.

We’ve still got some three months to go before TWD Season 6 officially begins, but at least we have a definite date to look forward to now!

The Walking Dead Season 6 premieres on October 11 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
