‘Walking Dead’ Season 6 Spoiler: Ethan Embry Character Turns on Rick
When we got our first look at Ethan Embry’s Walking Dead character in the TWD Season 6 mega-trailer released at Comic Con earlier this month we knew he was bad news, and now new spoilers indicate Ethan’s small screen counterpart (who is based on a character from the comics) will turn on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). Blasphemy!
At Comic Con, TWD showrunner Scott Gimple told members of the press (via Comicbook.com) Ethan’s character is “very loosely based on a comic character.” Though Scott wouldn’t name names at the time, he added, “People will know when they see it.”
You know what that means, TWD fans: Time to speculate!
Our pals over at the Spoiling Dead Fans Facebook page seem convinced Ethan’s character is based on Nicholas from the TWD comics, despite there already being a Nicholas (played by Michael Traynor) on the show.

According to SDF, that Nicholas dies in the first half of Season 6, after getting stuck in a walker-filled alleyway with Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). Considering Nicholas got Noah (Tyler James Williams) killed last season and is generally a huge jerk, we can’t say we’re going to miss him.
With TV Nicholas dead, there’s room for someone else (likely Ethan’s character) to take over the role of rebellious comic book Nicholas.

But what’s the evidence Ethan’s character takes after comic book Nicholas? In the comics, Nicholas is an outspoken critic of Rick’s and the mega-trailer showed Ethan’s character giving Rick a very hard time. Comic book Nick even encourages his fellow Alexandrians to turn on Rick which, as you can see, the trailer below alludes to.
This sounds like a classic Scott Gimple comic book “remix” to us!
The Walking Dead Season 6 premieres with a 90-minute episode on October 11 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
