UPDATE (11/8/17 at 11:00 a.m. ET):

Tom Bergeron is laughing off the haters.

After the Dancing With the Stars host faced criticism following his controversial comment towards pro Witney Carson on Monday’s show, he took to Twitter to sort of explain himself.

The 63-year-old told the 24-year-old after her Waltz with partner Frankie Muniz, “I’m guessing he’s not the first guy who has lost control of Witney.”

One user then tweeted, “@WitneyCarson I thought the @Tom_Bergeron comment meant that you were tough, focused, weren’t going to be led around or any kind of a pushover.”

Tom retweeted the tweet and added, “I couldn’t have said it better myself (obviously).”

He also tweeted, “Me. Losing control,” alongside a picture of himself piggybacking Witney.

The moment occurred while the 24-year-old and the former Malcolm in the Middle star were being critiqued after their waltz

“So far for me, that was the closest thing to perfection,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said.

“I mean, you are so exquisite when you dance, it’s just so clean. I look for mistakes, but I don’t see them – except for when you almost lost control of Witney there.”

Tom then said in response to Carrie Ann’s comments, “I’m guessing he’s not the first guy who has lost control of Witney.”

Following the show, both Witney and Frankie admitted they were confused by the comment.

“I think it was just Make Witney Uncomfortable Day,” the Agent Cody Banks star said.

“Yeah, I guess. I don’t know, you guys,” the blonde beauty shared.

“I didn’t really get it at first because I was like, I don’t really get what that means, but yeah, thanks. Thanks for whatever that was.”

Despite being a bit offput by the remark, she hopes everybody moves on.

“But I’m just going to brush it off, and I hope you guys do too.”

Meanwhile, Twitter had quite the reaction to Tom’s comment.

“That was so inappropriate towards Witney. And men wonder what #metoo is about,” one user wrote.

“Oh @Tom_Bergeron… that was 100% foot in mouth.....,” another user said.
